In Shadow Lake’s northeast hinterland

In 2014 Chris and Louisa Martin donated an easement on 35 acres on Stone Shore Road along the northern edge of Shadow Lake in Glover. Thirty acres is managed forestland with a view and right of way to Shadow Lake. It has hard- and softwood forests, a hayfield, logging roads, and extraordinary views. They established a four-acre homestead site.

From many points of the land, views extend southward to the Black Hills in Greensboro, conserved by the Vermont Land Trust in 2013. The Martin property also extends well into Shadow Lake’s northeast hinterland, forming an extended wildlife corridor between Greensboro and Glover.

While Glover is not within the NRLT’s designated coverage area, our bylaws allow trustees to work with landowners in a town abutting our service area. The Martin property’s location near protected lands in Greensboro and conservation values that enhance wildlife habitat prompted trustees to create the easement.
