Conservation Easements

Properties with conservation easements held by NRLT are protected from development.

An easement permanently protects land from uses that could adversely affect its natural value. It is a powerful legal tool to conserve worthy features in a landscape. Important characteristics may be its natural features and ecology, historical and archaeological value, public recreational access, agricultural use, and scenic and open space values. Each easement is drafted through a partnership with landowners that reflects the land’s conservation values, the landowners’ personal vision and needs, and the mission and objectives of the organization or agency holding the easement.
